Our journey to becoming a greener hotel

Local Suppliers

The aim of our seasonal menus is to provide premium locally sourced produce.

By working with suppliers in our community, we are helping reduce our carbon footprint by cutting down on food miles and supporting local businesses.

It also helps our customers experience and enjoy the taste and flavours of Hampshire and the surrounding area.

Our chef's use Hampshire pork, lamb and Scottish-fed beef, all provided by our local butchers in Hartley Wintney, less than 2 miles away.

Brilliant Biodiversity

Bee Friendly

The hotel's grounds are planted with an array of wildflowers, encouraging bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

Local Wildlife

In 1920 a pair of Canadian Geese were introduced to the estate and by the 1980’s these had flourished into two large flocks with distinct territories around the lake. The flocks still visit the Elvetham often.

Families of Mallard ducks can be found swimming along The River Hart that runs through The Elvetham grounds.

And surrounding areas are home to a population of deer.

The Glowworm Project

Since 2001, glowworm numbers in the UK have reduced by three quarters, the loss of wild meadows and light pollution have all undoubtedly played a part.

Thousands of glowworms have been bred in captivity and carefully released within the hotel's grounds.

Kitchen Gardens

The Kitchen Gardens at The Elvetham are planted with a varity of seasonal vegetables and herbs that are used by our talented chefs across our menus.

This garden serves as a living testament to The Elvetham's commitment to sustainability and quality, providing the kitchen with a rich harvest of ingredients that elevate each dish.

Our Green Team

The Elvetham formed a Green Team of colleague volunteers who are focused on reviewing and enhancing our sustainability efforts, to enable the hotel to achieve the Green Key accreditation.

Green Key

Green Key is an international eco-label for tourism facilities.

Since 1994, Green Key has been a leading standard of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.

The Green Key programme is run internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education. In England it is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

Green Key provides a well-proven framework for an establishment to work with its environmental management on sustainability issues, including awareness raising.

The high environmental standards expected of these establishments are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent on-site audits.

For guests, a Green Key shows that the establishment is committed to reducing the environmental impact of their stay.

The Green Key programme is aligned with the UNSDGS - Sustainable Development Goals 2015-2030 addressed by the United Nations.
