Welcome to 2023! This January there’s still much to enjoy at The Elvetham after a busy Christmas, with lots of great walking and opportunity to enjoy our beautiful grounds, not to mention our great dining options. The local area also offers a few unique events which our guests may enjoy, adding a little extra to a stay in our rural Hampshire idyll.
The long and ancient tradition of wassailing sees the local community give thanks to the local orchard and wish health to one and all with traditional dancing and a toast. It also confirms the bonds of the local community and its ties with the venerable village pub, the true heart of any English countryside community. January 13th is Wassail Night in Hartley Wintney. The Hook Eagle Morris Men will lead the evening with a torch lit procession to the Vaughan Millennium Orchard for the Wassail ceremony where the apple trees are blessed. Gather at the Waggon & Horses pub at 6.45pm! English rural tradition at its finest.
For more information see the parish council website here.
Next, we head to Farnham on January 21st for a Vintage Fashion Fair. Farnham's specialist vintage fashion, accessories and textiles fair held at the Farnham Maltings is back for 2023. Find beautiful, sustainable vintage fashion, accessories and textiles for ladies and gents from a wide selection of specialist vintage traders. All authentic vintage, from the Victorian era through to the 1990s, with prices from to suit every budget. Looking for a unique outfit for an event, or perhaps you’ve an interest in historic textiles? This could be the event for you! You will find more information and tickets here.
The same day also brings an entirely different sort of outing to the outskirts of Farnham. January 21st - Forest Bathing and Mindfulness. A sensory connection journey, moving slowly through the woodland, mindfully connecting with all your senses for relaxation and wellbeing, all under the guidance of the Forest Bathing Institute. Although you'll learn about science and the latest research, this isn't an intellectual exercise; you will also experience how to relax deeply in nature. Think of Forest Bathing as mindful time spent amongst trees. You will also experience the health benefits of spending time in woodland and being immersed in nature at the picturesque Alice Holt Forest just outside of Farnham. Beautiful woodlands and a sense of calm and tranquility? What’s not to love? Discover more here and head along.
That’s it for now, but we will be back soon with some more local highlights. In the meantime, we do hope you enjoy your stay with us at The Elvetham.
